The HBS Club of Northeastern Ohio continues to monitor the public health response to and guidance about the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The board of directors, in cooperation with our staff team, is following appropriate state and national guidance about managing business events.

As Governor DeWine announced on March 12, 2020, all events larger than 100 are banned and, on recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control, events larger than 10 should be cancelled or postponed.

The “Chef’s Table Dinners” are the talk of the town and sell out months in advance — this culinary experience has been scheduled specifically for the HBS Club Patron Members  and is an event you don’t want to miss.

Please bring a favorite bottle of wine to share during the evening of socializing and amazing food. We will email the menu to those registered a week ahead of time so you can choose a good match.

You can purchase a bottle of wine recommended by the chef during the dinner.

“Economic Forecast and Trends in Digital Currency”

TOM DOCKMAN is executive vice president of the eGovernment Department at the Cleveland Fed. Mr. Dockman joined the Bank as vice president of ecommerce strategic initiatives in 2015, and before that time he held senior leadership positions at financial services and technology companies such as Mitek Systems, Ally Bank, and Intuit. He has more than 20 years of product development and delivery experience in the financial services, insurance, and retail markets.

 

GUHAN VENKATU is a group vice president in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He leads the department’s regional analysis and outreach group. He joined the Bank in 1998 as a research analyst. In his tenure with the Bank, he has held positions of increasing responsibility including economist and vice president and senior regional officer of the Bank’s Pittsburgh Branch. His research and analysis have been a resource for the public, and he has advised and informed the Bank’s president and boards of directors.

Blockland, Blockchain, and the Future of Technology in Northeast Ohio

Bernie Moreno is a native of Columbia who moved to Cleveland from Boston 15 years ago to buy a struggling Mercedes Benz of North Olmsted. He turned it around and built the Bernie Moreno Family of Dealerships which peaked at 15 dealers with annual sales over $1B.

Having recently sold off all but two of his dealerships. Moreno has turned his passion and energy to building the high technology industry in Northeast Ohio. He launched the effort in 2018 to make Cleveland a global hub for blockchain. He recently announced plans to turn Tower City into City Block – a $100MM+ technology hub. He backed up his civic efforts by starting Ownum, an incubator for applying blockchain to such every day applications as car titles and birth certificates. As if that wasn’t enough, he has served on many community boards including Destination Cleveland, The Cleveland Foundation, Cleveland State University , and MetroHealth.

Holden Arboretum

Please join the HBS Club of Northeastern Ohio for a Sunset Hike at The Holden Arboretum followed by a presentation from President & CEO—Jill Koski.

Holden Arboretum recently merged with the Cleveland Botanical Garden and is now the 12th largest public garden in the country—Jill was named President in November 2017 and came to Cleveland after serving in various roles at Morton Arboretum and Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

Founded in 1908 by Albert Fairchild Holden in memory of his deceased 12 year old daughter, Holden Arboretum, which now has over 3,600 acres in Lake County, was modeled after the Arnold Arboretum, at a place you may have heard of called Harvard University.

We hope you will agree that there is no more beautiful time of year to see the natural beauty of Northeast Ohio than twilight in early Fall.  If you are unable to join us for the hike, you are welcome to tour Holden’s visitor center prior to Jill’s presentation.

Trees are important to our world — they cool the earth — they provide us with oxygen —they benefit wildlife — they sequester carbon to help fight climate change — they provide a canopy!

Note: Plan to dress casually/comfortably for the evening weather and wear hiking boots — you can change shoes after the hike if you like.
